چکیده

Recent progress has seen scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) emerge as a powerful technique for probing physicochemical interfacial processes, beyond the solid/liquid and electrode/electrolyte interfaces that were originally of primary interest. This review (with 92 references) assesses recent developments in SECM as a methodology for investigating liquid/liquid and liquid/gas interfaces, along with processes of biochemical and biophysical signi®cance. # 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Probing charge screening dynamics and electrochemical processes at the solid-liquid interface with electrochemical force microscopy.

The presence of mobile ions complicates the implementation of voltage-modulated scanning probe microscopy techniques such as Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM). Overcoming this technical hurdle, however, provides a unique opportunity to probe ion dynamics and electrochemical processes in liquid environments and the possibility to unravel the underlying mechanisms behind important processes at...

Heterogeneous electron transfer kinetics at the ionic liquid/metal interface studied using cyclic voltammetry and scanning electrochemical microscopy.

The electrochemical behavior of a redox-active, ferrocene-modified ionic liquid (1-ferrocenylmethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) in acetonitrile and in an ionic liquid electrolyte (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) is reported. Reversible electrochemical behavior was observed in each electrolyte with responses typical of those for unmodifie...

Studies of charge transfer at liquid liquid interfaces and bilayer lipid membranes by scanning electrochemical microscopy

The principles of scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) and its application to studies of electron transfer at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions are reviewed. The results of SECM measurements with a number of redox couples at the bare liquid liquid interface or an interface with a lipid monolayer suggest that the electron transfer follows that predicted by Marcus t...

A polarized liquid-liquid interface meets visible light-driven catalytic water oxidation.

Hyperbranched nanostructured bismuth vanadate at a chemically polarized water/organic interface is applied for efficient visible light-driven catalytic oxidation of water in the presence of [Co(bpy)3](PF6)3 as an organic soluble electron acceptor. The photocurrent response originating from the transfer of photo-excited electrons in BiVO4 to [Co(bpy)3]3+ is measured by scanning electrochemical m...

Kelvin probe force microscopy in liquid using electrochemical force microscopy

Conventional closed loop-Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) has emerged as a powerful technique for probing electric and transport phenomena at the solid-gas interface. The extension of KPFM capabilities to probe electrostatic and electrochemical phenomena at the solid-liquid interface is of interest for a broad range of applications from energy storage to biological systems. However, the ope...
